What struck me particularly was the ease with which he got through his work. If bad manners are infectious, so also are good manners. If we encounter incivility most of us are apt to become uncivil, but it is an unusually uncouth person who can be disagreeable with sunny people. It is with manners as with the weather.
“Nothing clears up my spirits like a fine day,” said Keats, and a cheerful person descends on even the gloomiest of us with something of the benediction of a fine day. And so it was always fine weather on the polite conductor’s bus, and his own civility, his conciliatory address and good-humoured bearing, infected his passengers. In lightening their spirits he lightened his own task. His gaiety was not a wasteful luxury, but a sound investment.

(b) Here the writer wants to suggest to the young lift-man that he could have taken a more effective revenge by making the passenger feel guilty of his brash behaviour by simply being polite to him.
Question A4.
Personal response:
Suppose that you have lost your ATM card at a restaurant where you have gone along with your family for enjoying a delicious meal and you are falling short of a small amount of money to square the amount. How will you handle the situation?
Answer:
Normally I do not go to restaurants which are not known to me. I always pay my bill ia cash. On a certain special day if I go to a restaurant along with my family, I pre-intimate the manager to arrange a separate table for us. Now if at the end of a sumptuous and delicious meal I realise that I have forgotten my ATM card and I am falling short of ready cash, I would straightaway go to the manager and tell him about my problem.
With a goodwill that I carry, he would certainly consider my fault with politeness and allow me to go. Considering my polite way of taking, I am sure he would understand that I would clear the amount in the soonest possible time.

I picked some delicious fruits and ate them.
Question 2.
(A) Read the extract and complete the activities given below:
It is a matter of general agreement that the war has had a chilling effect upon those little everyday civilities of behaviour that sweeten the general air. We must get those civilities back if we are to make life kindly and tolerable for each other. We cannot get them back by invoking the law. The policeman is a necessary symbol and the law is a necessary institution for a society that is still some—what lower than the angels.
But the law can only protect us against material attack. Nor will the lift-man’s way of meeting moral affront by physical violence help us to restore the civilities. I suggest to him, that he would have had a more subtle and effective revenge if he had treated the gentleman who would not say “Please” with elaborate politeness. He would have had the victory, not only over tjpe boor, but over himself, and that is the victory that counts. The polite man may lose the material advantage, but he always has the spiritual victory. I commend to the lift-man a story of Chesterfield.
In his time the London streets were without the pavements of today, and the man who “took the wall” had the driest footing. “I never give the wall to a scoundrel,” said a man who met Chesterfield one day in the street. “I always do,” said Chesterfield stepping with a bow into the road. I hope the lift-man will agree that his revenge was much more sweet than if he had flung the fellow into the mud.

There are three questions posed about their weaving of certain cloth, time and purpose and the weavers provide answers to them.
The colours of the cloth woven are associated with both marriage and death. First stanza deals with cloth for a newborn child, second stanza refers to cloth for a queen or a bride and the last stanza mentions the cloth for a dead man. There are three four lined stanzas having dialogues. The conversational tone offer a flow to the entire peom.

A businessman needs a cool temperament as agitation can’t lead a person to take right decisions. I have the ability to keep my temper cool even in very disturbing situations. So I am able to evaluate all pros and cons of any situation. Because of such quality, I was selected as the captain of our college cricket team as it requires to make quick and effective decisions.
Just believing in the fact that I am gifted with qualities to become a good businessman is boastfulness. So I need to prove it and fortunately I had on opportunity knocking on my door during the business fair that was organised by our college. I wanted to have a stall selling helmets but the principal didn’t accept it.
Somehow I got the permission after persistent efforts. I exchanged the old helmets and with new ones and my friends just had to pay the difference because of my tie-up with the helmet dealer. I also offered a small sack as a gift for the buyers. Luckily my venture succeeded and I received a good profit and satisfaction.
This experience has made me realise what I should do. Your reputed institute can offer me what I am searching for. I wish to have not just a degree but the guidance of the experienced and tactful faculty of your institution which will offer me the right exposure. Beauty is truth, Truth beauty
This proverb is a beautiful expression of John Keats in his poem ‘Ode On A Grecian Urn’. This proverbial expression clearly conveys the fact that beauty around us is the truth and nothing else is really greater than truth. The real beauty never lies in any particular object but it lies in the lasting impact or durability of it.
The poet really wants to emphasise the idea that truth in this would never perishes but stays permanent in the world. There are many things around us which look beautiful but their beauty is transient. The poet is not ready to consider anything as equal to as truth. Outward appearances can prove to be deceptive so .there is a need of looking into the inner or core beauty. Truth and beauty gives pleasure.
Truth is always the ultimate reality. Beauty and truth never lose their nobility or sublimity. So, it is rightly said that ‘Beauty is truth, truth beauty’.

Film Review
The feature film ‘Super 30’ is a noteworthy film throwing light on the dedication and devotion of an IITian. The characters and roles played by the artists are Anand Kumar (Hrithik Roshan), Lallanji (Aditya Srivastava), Supriya (Mrunal Thakur), etc.
This film is actually a biopic of Anand Kumar who started a batch of 30 students to make them I ITians. Young Anand, a son of a postman, is extremely brilliant in Maths and desires to study in Cambridge University. Though he gets the admission, his poverty makes him lose it. While working for livelihood, the administrator, Lallanji gives him a break to teach students at an IIT coaching centre.
But when he sees poor students, he gets upset and decides to use his talent for them. He starts his own coaching institute in Patna, though he has to face obstacles. He selects only 30 students and it is remarkable to see what actually happens.
Language used by the characters in the film belongs typically to Bihar. Even the appearances of the artists are very typical. The duo Ajay-Atul has composed music for the film. Farah Khan has directed the dance sequences. The director of the film Vikas Behl has done an excellent job.
I would certainly recommend the film as a must watch. It is because this is based on the real story of a dedicated teacher, Prof. Anand Kumar of Bihar. The way he shapes the career of the needy students selflessly is a lesson to be learnt.
