Although the idea of protecting cultural and natural heritage sites around the world began in the early twentieth century, momentum for its actual creation was not until the 1950s. In 1954, Egypt started plans to build the Aswan High Dam to collect and control water from the Nile River. The initial plan for the dam’s construction would have flooded the valley containing the Abu Simbel Temples and scores of ancient Egyptian artefacts. To protect the temples and artefacts, UNESCO launched an international campaign in 1959 that called for the dismantling and movement of the temples to higher ground. The project cost an estimated US $80 million, $40 million of which came from 50 different countries. Because of the project’s success, UNESCO and the International Council on Monuments and Sites initiated a draft convention to create an international organization responsible for protecting cultural heritage. Shortly thereafter in 1965, a White House Conference in the United States called for a “World Heritage Trust” to protect historic and cultural sites but to also protect the world’s significant natural and scenic sites. Finally, in 1968, the International Union for Conservation of Nature developed similar goals and presented them at the United Nations Conference on Human Environment in Stockholm, Sweden in 1972. Following the presentation of these goals, the Convention concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage was adopted by UNESCO’s General Conference on November 16, 1972. |

(B) Appreciation of the poem ‘Animals’
The poem ’Animals’ has been written by the famous American poet Walt Whitman.
It has been written in a free-verse format and hence lacks a regular rhyme scheme. The beauty of this poem is enhanced manifold using various figures of speech like Interrogation, Alliteration, Metaphor, Antithesis, Tautology, Onomatopoeia, Repetition, Consonance and Hyperbole. An example of Interrogation from the poem is “Did I pass that way huge times ago and negligently drop them?” as the question is not asked to elicit any answer, but to stimulate the reader to think deeply about the question.
The poem is a sarcastic take on what human beings have lost in their craze for a materialistic life. By comparing human life to that of animals, the poet highlights the appalling life man is presently living. Although, today, he has made rapid strides towards progress and made himself stable, comfortable and wealthy, he lacks many of the qualities that will make him enjoy the fruits of his labour. He has been reduced to a dissatisfied, materialistic individual who is ignorant of how well life should be lived.

i. Caffeine is good for health.
ii. Healthy fats are powerful tools.
iii. Our brain becomes acceptable to oxidative stress.
iv. Medications can help shore up your focus.
We’re used to drinking coffee to heighten alertness, but too much caffeine can lead to counterproductive side effects, including anxiety, irritability and insomnia. There are other better fuels that help the brain focus. Healthy fats are a powerful tool. As per studies have shown that consuming omega-3 fatty acids-essential components found in the membranes of our brain’s neurons-can improve cognition and memory. These nutrients can be found in fish, such as mackerel, sardines, herring and trout, or in capsule form. Avocados, nuts and seeds, which all contain vitamin E, also help to improve concentration. Additionally, as we age, our brains become vulnerable to oxidative stress, which plays a role in cognitive decline. To combat this it is necessary to include darkly coloured fruits and vegetables in your diet.
The antioxidants found in blueberries specifically can cross the blood-brain barrier, which helps boost focus. Approximately four per cent of adults worldwide who will be affected by an attention deficit disorder in their lifetime, a diet adjustment may not be enough. If you regularly have trouble-finishing tasks that demand your sustained focus or are so easily distracted that it adversely affects your life, ask your doctor about a diagnosis. Medications can help shore up your focus. |

Additionally, I will consume avocados, nuts, and seeds for Vitamin E, and opt for antioxidant-rich foods like blueberries. These essential nutrients have the potential to enhance cognition, memory and focus. By maintaining a well-balanced diet that includes these elements, I aim to improve my overall brain function.
(B) Boosting Brain Health: Diet and Focus
The passage discusses the effects of coffee and the need for alternative brain-boosting options. It emphasizes omega-3’s cognitive and memory benefits from fish, alongside avocado, nuts, and vitamin E-rich seeds for concentration. Aging induces cognitive decline from oxidative stress. Including dark fruits and vegetables in your diet enhances focus, countering this effect. About four percent of adults worldwide experience attention deficit disorder, and seeking medical advice and medication for persistent focus issues is advisable.

Subject: Spreading Awareness on Online Games Addiction and Its Impact on Children.
Respected Sir,
I am writing as a concerned citizen, urging your esteemed newspaper to address the growing concern of online games addiction among children in our community.
Many kids are becoming addicted to these games, impacting their relationships, sleep and academics. The violent content in some games can lead to increased aggression and desensitization. In severe cases, it’s linked to anxiety and depression.
As responsible community members, we must raise awareness and take action. I request your newspaper to feature the risks and effects of online game addiction through informative articles, expert opinions, and interviews with psychologists and educators. This will help parents and educators recognize signs and take appropriate measures to safeguard children.
I believe that your newspaper has the power to create a positive impact on our community.
I anticipate your efforts in raising awareness and making a difference in our children’s lives.
Thank you for considering my request.
Yours sincerely,

Read the following paragraph about The causes of pollution and the possible solutions’ and tabulate the same information :
Pollution is the contamination into the natural environment that causes adverse change. Pollution levels are increasing day by day. There are various reasons for it. Sound pollution levels have increased due to blaring loudspeakers during festival time and increased volume of traffic.

(B2) Counterviews on ’Social Networking Sites are not a Necessity’
While not essential, social networking sites offer significant advantages for modern communication, enabling effortless interaction, information sharing, and community engagement. While alternative methods like calls and emails exist, these platforms provide a unique space for connectivity. Though not a necessity, these sites can be used cautiously to address cybercrime challenges, employing measures like multi-factor authentication and strong passwords. However, dishonesty can arise due to the absence of face-to-face interactions, with people creating false identities or exaggerating achievements.
Fostering transparency and authenticity is vital to counter this. Implementing verification badges and reporting mechanisms can counter dishonesty. Transparent data practices, user consent, and security audits combat personal information misuse. In conclusions, social networking sites, although not imperative, offer valuable communication opportunities when used responsibly. They help make connections while minimizing risks.

(B1) A Dream Fulfilled
In Pune, my hometown, I, Priyanka, a determined class 10th student, aspired to become a renowned wildlife conservationist and establish my conservation organization. Amongst a sea of classmates engrossed in video games, nature was my haven.
During the summer break, I volunteered at a wildlife sanctuary, learning from dedicated conservationists and catching the attention of respected wildlife biologist Dr. Kapoor. His offer to assist in researching endangered Western Ghats species set the stage for an extraordinary journey.
A year later, news reached me about a Conference dedicated to funding projects by emerging wildlife conservationists. Balancing rigorous studies and immersive fieldwork, I painstakingly recorded unique plant species, conducted thorough data analysis, and uncovered valuable insights. On the day of my presentation, the exhilaration was palpable. Presenting my discoveries at the conservation conference, I experienced a rush of excitement as Dr. Kapoor’s praise validated the challenges I’d conquered. The Board, along with Dr. Kapoor, impressed by my dedication, proposed funding for my conservation dream. It was a dream come true for an ordinary child like me.
