Bravo Singh
One day my sister brought home a little puppy that strayed near our building. His eyes were the best part about him – one look and the person was sure to fall in love with him. After a lot of convincing, my mother allowed us to keep him, provided he didn’t litter the house. She asked me and my sister to ensure that. Bravo, that’s what we named him because he was brave and alert.

Even when we went to school, he would sit outside our home and stop any stranger from entering the house. We renamed him Bravo Singh, that’s our family name, when one day, he saved my father from being robbed. Many a time, Bravo proved that he was very much like his name. Once, he even went to the clinic and led our family doctor home, as my mother had fainted and no one was at home to attend to her. He saved her life. For many days, he accompanied me and my sister to school and played with us in the evenings.

That is when I knew that animals are kind and faithful to humans. Although he died last year, he will always be a member of our family.

Androcles, and the Lion

‘Androcles and the Lion’
