In 10 years Apple had grown from just the two of us in a garage into a $2 billion company. And then I got fired. It was devastating. Pixar is now the world’s most successful animation studio, Apple bought next. I returned to Apple and the technology we developed at Next is at the heart of Apple’s current renaissance. Yes, life has hit me in the head with a brick. When I was in class 9, I did not qualify to be a part of my school’s football team despite my best efforts. I was very upset and shocked because I had practised each day and refined my techniques. My mother spoke to me at this worst time of my life since she was aware how passionate I was about the game. She explained that it was not a lost opportunity, but rather time given to me to better my skills. She encouraged me to keep up my efforts and practise and that’s exactly what I did. A Thing of Beauty is a Joy For Ever A thing of beauty is a joy for ever: Its loveliness increases; it will never Pass into nothingness; but still will keep A bower quiet for us, and a sleep Full of sweet dreams, and health and quiet breathing. Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing A flowery band to bind us to the earth, Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth Of noble natures, of the gloomy days, Of all the unhealthy and o’er-darkened ways Made for our searching : yes, in spite of all, Some shape of beauty moves a way the pall From our dark spirits. Such the sun, the moon, Trees old, and young, sprouting a shady boon For simple sheep ; and such are daffoldils With the green world they live in ; and clear rills That for themselves a cooling covert make ‘Gainst the hot season ; the mid forest brake, Rich with a sprinkling of fair musk-rose blooms : And such too is the grandeur of the dooms We have imagined for the mighty dead; All lovely tales that we have heard or read : An endless fountain of immortal drink Pouring unto us from the heaven’s brink. Nor do we merely feel these essences For one short hour ; no, even as the trees That whisper round a temple become soon Dear as the temple’s self, so does the moon, The passion poesy, glories infinite, Haunt us till they become a cheering light Unto our souls, and bound to us so fast, That, whether there be shine, or gloom o’ercast They always must be with us, or we die. -John Keats |

The rhyme scheme followed throughout in the poem is aabbcc’. The figures of speech used to enrich the poem include Alliteration, Anti-climax, Antithesis, Assonance, Climax, Consonance, Epigram, Repetition, Metaphor, Onomatopoeia and Personification. (Al) Name the following:
i. The city that seemed as flat as soda-water to the narrator.
ii. The country that the narrator calls home.
iii. The country that was sort of like Arabian Nights for the narrator.
iv. The narrator’s age.
I returned from the City at about three o’clock on that May afternoon, pretty well disgusted with life. I had been for about three months in the Old Country, and was fed up with it. The weather made me irritable, the talk of the ordinary Englishman made me sick. I couldn’t get enough exercise, and the amusements of London seemed as flat as soda-water that has been standing in the sun.
It made me bite my lips to think of the plans I had been building up those last years in Bulawayo. I had got my collection of things—not one of the big ones, but good enough for me; and I had figured out all kinds of ways of enjoying myself. My father had brought me out from Scotland at the age of six, and I had never been home since; so England was a sort of Arabian Nights to me, and I counted on stopping there for the rest of my days. But from the first I was disappointed with it. In about a week, I was tired of seeing sights, and in less than a month l had had enough of restaurants and theatres. I had no real pal to go about with, which probably explains things. Plenty of people invited me to their houses, but they didn’t seem much interested in me. They would fling me a question or two about my hometown, and then get on their own affairs. A lot of ladies asked me to tea to meet schoolmasters from New Zealand and editors from Vancouver, and that was the most depressing business of all. Here I was, thirty-seven years old, sound in wind and limb, with enough money to have a good time, yawning my head off all day. I had just about settled to clear out and get back to the grassland, for I was the best bored man in the United Kingdom. |

Half way through the circus, I dozed off. I ended up feeling refreshed after the circus, not because I enjoyed it, but because I took a much-needed nap during the performance.
(B) An Uneventful Stay in London
The author had been staying in London for the past three months. He was frustrated with his stay, as London was not as he had expected. He could not help but think of the plans he had been making back in Bulawayo for his stay in London. His father had taken him out of Scotiand when he was six and he had not been there ever since. For the author, London was appealing, but had failed to live up to his expectations. He was bored of the city’s cultural attractions, hadn’t made even one friend and was continuously invited to boring meet-ups and tea parties. As a 37-year-old able and well-off man with nothing interesting to do, the author very understandably wanted to return to the grassland. His uneventful stay had made him the best bored man in the United Kingdom.

How are you? How is Uncle Yatin? I hope Vikrant is sincerely preparing for his semester exams. I too am busy preparing for the same. My school has scheduled the exams in the last week of November.
I’m writing this letter to you for a purpose. There have been incessant power cuts in our locality for the past two weeks. This has seriously affected my preparation for the upcoming exams. By the time I come back from school and sit to study, the power goes off. The October heat makes it extremely difficult to quietly sit in once place and focus. We have made several complaints 1o the authorities, but they are yet to address the problem. I don’t know for how long these power cuts would go on. I, therefore, wanted to ask you whether it would be okay if I come over to stay at your place for a few days. I would like io do my best in this examination and for that I need to be thoroughly prepared In fact, I think if Vikrant and I study together, it would help us both prepare better.
I was thinking of coming over on 25th October and leaving by 5th November. Do let me know whether it is alright for me to come over. Please give my regards to Uncle Yatin and you take care of yourself.

My name is Kavin Ghadge and I am a resident of Sector 3, Airoli, Navi Mumbai. Through this grievance letter, I wish to draw your attention to the pressing issue of incessant power cuts that the residents of my locality have been facing since the past two weeks.

Thanking you in anticipation.
Yours sincerely,
Kavin Ghadge

Question 6.
(A) Information Transfer: Attempt any one of the following activities:- [05 Marks]
(A1) Non-verbal to Verbal
Write a paragraph based on the following pie chart.
OR
(A2) Verbal to Non-verbal
Read the following passage and make a flowchart based on it.
Before superhero blockbusters and animated comedies, filmmakers were lucky if they could get a horse to successfully gallop across the screen. Edward Muybridge invented one of the first movie projectors, the zoopraxiscope. The zoopraxiscope rotated images on a disc very quickly so that figures appeared to be moving. Muybridge’s most famous zoopraxiscope film featured a horse running in one direction. Soon, movies were everywhere. Filmmakers had not figured out how to add sound yet, but their silent movies were big hits with the public. Audience members often enjoyed live musical accompaniment or commentary from film hosts. The popularity of movies prompted • some big changes from even more inventors and filmmakers. Humorous Phases of Funny Faces (1906) was a short film that featured several chalkboard characters coming to life.
By 1923, movie makers figured out how to add sound to films. In less than a decade, almost every film produced was a “talkie”. Filmmakers still had one more hurdle to jump in their quest to make movies move closer to reality: most movies were still completely filmed in black-and-white. While early experiments with colour and film had existed since the late 19th century, it was not until Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s The Wizard of Oz that colour motion pictures became wildly popular that colour film was taken seriously.
Today, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and online streaming allow the movie experience to be enjoyed from the comforts of bedrooms, offices, and even airplanes.

(B1) Speech on ‘Children being port of television shows is also a form of child labour’
Good Morning, friends! I, Miss Hrishita Desai of Class X, am here to share my thoughts on the theme, ‘Children being part of television shows is also a form of child labour’.
These days, a lot of parents encourage their school-going children to participate in stage shows as well as serials and talent shows on television. No doubt, the parents, the child, the neighbourhood, school and even the region gets publicity due to this participation, however one must remember that these children are deprived of a proper childhood. They serve as a source of income and fame to their families, at the cost of their education. This is exactly what child labour is.
Be it a child earning by washing utensils in a hotel or a chiid artiste in a movie, both are forms of child labour. The reason we are unable to accept this is because of the lure of the camera and publicity that the child gets. Denying children a proper childhood for any reason is a crime. Let us vow not to support i thi participation of children in television shows. They have their whole lives ahead of them to earn and gain publicity. Thank you.
(Note: Begin your speech with a greeting in which you address ail the people present. Introduce yourself and the topic on which you are going to give the : speech. Make sure to use all the given points mentioned in the question and add your own if needed. Include examples in the speech to put forth your point effectively. Conclude either by writing a slogan or by taking a vow. Thank the audience towards the end of the speech.)

(B2) View on ‘Importance of Teachers in the Digital Age’
In the current times, knowledge is readily available to us. Previously, students would rely upon books in libraries but even those weren’t easily accessible Teachers were the primary, and most of the times, the only source of information and learning. In ancient India, teachers or gurus were compared I with Sods due to their importance in a student’s life. However, as time passed on, the process of learning became simpler and it was possible to get educated ; independently. Knowledge was available all around us through books and wasn’t limited to any person. This reduced the earlier significance of teachers.
With changing times, students prefer the digital means of sourcing information. Though these alternatives are quite.helpful, they can never replace the powerhouse of knowledge that our teachers are. Our teachers know us and understand what the best way is to communicate with us. In addition to this, due I to the information revolution in the digital age, it is now easier to gain access to
I other sources of learning. This is why we have come to question the value of having teachers in today’s times.
However, nothing can match the level of education a learned individual can give us. Some things cannot be learned without an experienced hand guiding us. Lastly, a computer cannot give us the same level of emotional warmth and care that a person can easily do to make us feel comfortable.

In school, we learn a lot from our friends by imbibing their interests and qualities to better ourselves. Similarly, we should also allow others to take our thoughts and likings and use them to improve themselves. If someone steals our ideas or takes what we’ve done and tries to pass it off as their own, it’s definitely a bad thing. However, we can also influence people in a way that they start liking or using the same things. That’s why, if someone copies our style and sense, we should feel complimented and not offended.

(A2) A Smart School
– Sanjana Parekh, Student Reporter
Mumbai, 29th September, 2019
Shikshanand High School celebrated its Annual Day Function on the 21st of September, 2019. Students, teachers and management members had come together to put up a spectacular show to celebrate its ‘Silver Jubilee’ Anniversary. The function comprised of many entertaining performances, but one performance brilliantly stood out from the rest.
A play, titled ‘Smart School’. It was put together by the students of Class X-A and captured the attention of everyone in the audience. The play opened with a boy, named Vikas waiting for his school bus. This boy had a bracelet on his hand, which tracked ail his health statistics, the number of steps he took as well as the path that his bus would take to reach the school. Once the school bus arrived to pick up Vikas, he synced his bracelet to the wireless machine inside the bus. This bracelet tracked his journey and displayed it on an electronic tablet, which his parents could access. On his arrival in school, his vital stats were measured, his attendance was marked and the information of his classes was synced to his bracelet. The day progressed with Vikas visiting a Smart Laboratory with a bio-farm in it and a Smart Canteen where his food intake was analysed and he was served food in accordance to his health requirements.
“My favourite part in the play was the entry of Vikas into the classrooms with automatic temperature regulators, individual desktops and a projector with state-of-the-art technology”, were the words of an enthralled member of the audience. The play was truly futuristic in nature and entertained everyone in the audience. It was a perfect ode to the progressive philosophy of Shikshanand High School.

(B2) My Surprise Adventure
I had never been this excited for anything in my life. I have always loved the ocean and two weeks back I found out that my wish to visit one was soon to be fulfilled. My family had planned a surprise trip to Andaman and Nicobar for me during the summer vacations.
Since then, I was looking forward to the 4-day training and exploration course where I would learn the basics of deep-sea diving. The day we reached Port Blair, I rushed to the beach and started my training sessions. After two days of learning about how to operate the diving equipment, I was ready to go into the deep sea.
The underwater world amazed me and I felt like I was in a dream, surrounded by the sea creatures I loved. I was surprised to find out I was a natural explorer and this adventure strengthened my plans of becoming a marine biologist.
