Water Contamination in South Mumbai

– Ms. Aastha Patel, Student Reporter

Mumbai, April 2, 2021

Besides the unbearable heat of this year’s summer, places in South Mumbai, are facing severe water contamination issues.

Of late, residents of the region around Walkeshwar, Kalbadevi, Fort and a few places in Parel have been diagnosed with increasing cases of dysentery, skin rashes and cholera. Residents claim that the reason for this is the contaminated drinking water that is being supplied to them since last week. A sample of the drinking water that was sent for testing, confirmed this fact.

The BMC officials claim that there has been a mixing of potable and sewage water due to the old and rusty pipes that carry these two types of water. “We would soon correct the fault so that such incidents do not occur in the future,” said an official, who did not wish to be named.

So far, 29 people have been diagnosed with severe sickness caused due to the water and the number continues to increase.

A large number of people had gathered at the temple on that day, for the annual celebrations that are held around this time every year. As many of them tried to walk across the bridge leading to the temple, overlooking the rope barriers, they overcrowded the way to the temple, which led to the sudden rush of people towards the main gate.

– Master Neel Pandey, Student Reporter

Bhopal, March 16, 2022

The one-week long, traditional fair in the capital city of Madhya Pradesh ended on Sunday, 14th March, 2021. This year it hosted a number of dance programs, agricultural and craftwork exhibitions and many other traditional craft workshops.

The Bhopal fair recorded a total of 1.3 lakh visitors this year. Apart from the exhibitions, the fair also depicted the old tradition of the barter system. The fair was inaugurated by the Cultural Minister of the state. This eight-day long fair was meant to promote the rich and vibrant culture of the state. It proved to be an attraction for school children, as many schools were given a chance to arrange various art and cultural competitions. There was also an amusement park for the kids and a number of food stalls.

However, this year’s fair saw a decline in visitors’ interest towards the traditional Tonga ride, bullock cart ride and camel ride. The organisers had infused all their energies to make it successful. The introduction of some modern elements also contributed in retaining the interest of the visitors in the fair.
