(B) 1. i. Annales School was a new school of historiography which arose in France at the onset of twentieth century.
ii. It was started by French historians.
iii. It gave a new direction to history writing.
iv. According to this school, history was not only about the political events, kings, great leaders, politics, diplomacy and wars but it also included the climate, local people, agriculture, trade, technology, means of communication, social divisions and their collective psychology, etc. in the historical times.

2. i. Some movies on sports and biography of players have been released in various languages in the recent times.
ii. For e.g. ‘Mary Kom’ is a movie based on the life of Mary Kom, the first Indian female boxer. ‘Dangal’ is a movie based on the life story of the Phogat sisters who were the first Indian female wrestlers to win gold medals at various International competitions.

3. i. In Maharashtra Dashavatara is part of Folk Theatre.
ii. The stories presented in Dashavatara shows are based on the 10 incarnations of Vishnu namely, Matsya, Koorma, Varaha, Narsimha, Wamana, Parashurama, Ram, Krishna, Buddha and Kalki.
iii. Dashavatara shows are presented in the regions of Konkan and Goa after the harvesting season is over.
iv. The sutradhar or the narrator invokes Lord Ganesha, the destroyer of obstacles at the start of the show.
v. The show is mostly musical but sometimes there may be a few spontaneous dialogues.
vi. The method of acting, make-up and costumes is set by tradition. The characters that depict God wear a wooden mask.

1. i. In the twentieth century, Michel Foucault, a French historian, brought forth a new concept in historiography.
ii. He rejected the practice of arranging historical events in a chronological order. He explained that archaeology does not intend to reach the ultimate historical truth but attempts to explain various transitions in the past.
Hence, Foucault called his method, which gave importance to explain the transitions in history, as ‘the Archaeology of Knowledge’.

2. i. History is the study of past events and these historical events relate to various fields such as politics, social & religious structure of a community, philosophy, technology & science, etc.
ii. Each of these fields has their own history of building knowledge. The direction of future development in every field is dependent on the state of available knowledge.
Hence, it is rightly said that, the method of history is useful in the research of many subjects.

3. i. Chitrakathi or Pinguli is a tradition of narrating stories from Ramayana or Mahabharata with the help of wooden puppets and paintings.
ii. This tradition is mentioned in Manasollas or Abhilashitartha Chitamani a book written by the Chalukya king, Someshvara in the 12th century C.E. which confirms the antiquity of this tradition.
iii. In this art, Chitrakathi pictures are drawn on a paper and painted in colours made from natural substances. A single story requires 30-50 pictures for complete narration.
iv. These pictures have been preserved very carefully and are handed down from one generation to another.
Since this tradition is on the verge of extinction, artists and the government are trying to preserve the tradition.

4. i. Institutes like libraries, museums and archives conserve and preserve precious historical heritage. The tasks involved in the work of conservation and preservation are following:
a. collecting the sources of history creating their records and indices.

Tamasha: Tamasha is a Persian word. It means a ‘Pleasing Sight.’ Tamasha developed as an independent art form in the 18th century, by absorbing various traits of folk theatre and classical arts. There are two types of traditional Tamasha, Sangeet Bari and Dholakicha Phad. Dance and music are more important than drama in a Sangeet Bari. Tamasha with drama as the main part, was developed later. It included vag, the dramatic part, little later. The vag becomes very lively and entertaining because of its spontaneous humour. The show begins by singing the praise of Lord Ganesha, known as Gana. It is followed with the presentation of Gavalan. The second part of Tamasha presents the vag. The popular plays like ‘Vichchha Mazi Puri Kara’ or ‘Gadhavache Lagna’ are examples of the modern form of Tamasha.

1. Introduction:
V. K. Rajwade wrote in Marathi on varied subjects like history, linguistics, etymology, grammar, etc.
i. He firmly stated that we should write our own history and accordingly, he compiled and edited 22 volumes of Marathyanchya Itihasachi Sadhane and wrote scholarly prefaces to each volume.
ii. He also stated that –
a. History is the all-inclusive image of the past societies and is not based only on the stories of political images, conspiracies & wars for seizing power.
b. According to him, an event qualifies to be an historical event if it presents a balanced combination of the three factors, Time, Space and Personalities.
iii. He insisted on writing history based on only authentic documentary source. On 7th July 1910, he founded ‘Bharat Itihas Samshodhak Mandal’ in Pune to facilitate historical research.
Conclusion: In this way the ideology of Nationalistic Historians had a deep impact on Indian history.

2. Introduction:
The place where old documents, official records, old films, etc. are preserved and stored are called as archives. Following tasks are important in archives management:
i. As documents from archives are reliable these need to be preserved with important content in their original condition.
For e.g., the archives in Pune under Maharashtra State Government has about 5 crore Modi documents related to Maratha history. These documents are referred to as ‘Peshwa Daftar’.
ii. Indexes should be prepared. E.g. Documents from 1748 have been preserved here in a chronological order. These documents include records in English, Arabic, Hindi, Persian, Sanskrit and Urdu languages. There are records in Modi script as well.
iii. Accurate systems of retrieval documents should be created. For e.g. these records can be classified into four categories as Public Records, Oriental Studies, Manuscripts and Private Records.
iv. These documents are made available to researchers as and whenever necessary and all the above-mentioned tasks are done by computers.
Conclusion: Hence, the preservation of documents, preparation of indexes and creating accurate systems are the important tasks in the management of archives.

3. Introduction:
Art history is an independent branch of knowledge. The various professional and research related opportunities available in the field of arts and art history are as follows:

ii. An expert with deep understanding of art history can help in assessing the exact value of an art object or to ensure that it is genuine. Such an art market functions as an independent field.

1. i. To control malpractices during elections and to ensure free and fair elections in India, the Election Commission has adopted several measures. The Code of Conduct is one among them.
ii. This code is a unique document which explains the rules that are to be followed by the government, political parties and voters before elections and during elections.
iii. The government also cannot violate these rules.
