1. i. Generally, by October there is a season of retreating monsoon in India.
ii. The South-west monsoon winds return from the Himalayan ranges. While retreating from the northeast across the Bay of Bengal, it picks up a significant amount of moisture.
iii. While blowing from the north-east towards the Indian ocean the winds cross the eastern coasts of India and cause heavy & widespread rain to some parts of the Peninsula.
Thus, India receives precipitation from the North-East Monsoon winds too.

2. i. Railways is an easy and convenient mode of transport. It is a suitable for transportation of people as well as goods.
ii. The railway network is dense in North Indian Plains and in areas where the slopes are gentle.
iii. Also, this area has high population and well developed agriculture and industries.
This has lead to increased urbanisation in these regions, as a result of which a dense network of railways has developed in the north Indian plains.

3. i. Due to urbanisation, deforestation and other reasons, the forests in India were in danger. Hence, the Government of India, for the protection of forests in India has set up a number of national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, biosphere reserves, etc. Similarly, there is a need of conservation of forests in Brazil too.
ii. Brazil is the fifth largest country in the world and occupies 5.6 percent of the world’s total land. Due to its vast size and favourable vegetation & climate, it has the largest number of vegetation species in the world. Moreover, it has greater diversity in wildlife than any other country in the world.
iii. However, degradation of environment is taking place in Brazil due to slash and burn agriculture (Roca), deforestation, pollution, etc. These issues have a bad impact on the wildlife of Brazil. Many endemic species are on the verge of getting extinct because of these issues.
Hence, in order to conserve the biodiversity of Brazil; like India, there is a need of conservation of forests in Brazil too.

4. i. Brazil receives rainfall from the South- East Trade winds as well as the North¬East Trade winds.
ii. Some parts of the Highlands extend upto the northern coast. The escarpments act as an obstruction to the South-East trade winds coming from the sea. This causes orographic type of rainfall in the coastal areas.
iii. Beyond the highlands, as the effect of these winds gets reduced, the region receives less rainfall.
Due to all these reasons, the north-eastern part of Brazilian Highlands receives very less rainfall and is called as a rain-shadow region or a ’Drought Quadrilateral’.

1. i. The difference in terms of location between Brazil and India are stated as follows:
a. Location based on hemisphere:
India is located in the Northern and the Eastern hemisphere whereas Brazil is located in the Western and the Southern hemisphere (some part of Brazil located in Northern hemisphere and most of it lies in the Southern hemisphere).
b. Location based on continent:
India is located in Asian continent whereas Brazil is located in South American continent.

ii. The difference in terms of latitudinal and longitudinal extent of India and Brazil is as follows:
a. Latitudinal extent of India is 8° 4′ N to 37° 6′ N latitude whereas Latitudinal extent of Brazil is 5° 15′ N to 33° 45′ S latitude.
b. Longitudinal extent of India is 68° 7′ E to 97° 25′ E longitude whereas Longitudinal extent of Brazil 34° 45′ W to 73° 48′ W longitude.

2. i. Rainfall and climate are the two important factors which affect the natural vegetation of any country.
ii. India is a tropical region and it has a monsoon type of climate. It receives maximum rainfall from the months of June to September due to the South¬West monsoon winds.
iii. Moreover, it experiences hot climate throughout the year. Due to this, deciduous forests are found here. These forests are found in regions where the rainfall is between 1000 mm and 2000 mm.
iv. In dry seasons, trees shed their leaves so that water is not lost due to evaporation. Teak, bamboo, banyan, peepal, etc., are the trees found in these forests.
Therefore, the deciduous type of vegetation occupies most of India.

3. i. It is our social responsibility to ensure that the cleanliness and sanctity of the place of visit is not disturbed during the visit.
ii. So during filed visit we must ensure that we do not throw trash or litter around us.
iii. We must use the dustbins for throwing empty packets of snacks, empty water bottles, left-over food items, etc. Also, we must try to segregate dry and wet waste.
iv. We must carry huge garbage bags so as to use them to collect trash in absence of a dustbin or if the dustbin is overflowing with garbage. This garbage bag can be disposed later.
